What is the Process of Applying Porcelain Veneers?

The process begins with an initial consultation to assess your gums and teeth to determine if you are a good candidate for receiving veneers. If it is determined you are a candidate, you and your dentist will discuss the desired shade and shape of the veneers. Next, a very thin layer of your natural tooth enamel, usually less than a millimeter, is removed from the front surface of your teeth in order to create space for the veneers. Impressions of your teeth are then taken to create a mold for the custom veneers. While you wait for your permanent veneers to be crafted (which could take a few weeks), your dentist will place temporary veneers to protect your prepared teeth. Once your veneers are ready, the temporary veneers will be removed. Before securing the permanent veneers, they will be checked to ensure that the fit and colour are just right. Your teeth will then be cleaned, polished and etched to ensure a strong bond. A special cement will be applied to the veneers, and they will be carefully placed on the teeth. An LED light will then be used to harden the cement and finish the bonding process. Any excess cement will be removed, and your bite will be checked and adjusted as required. With proper care, porcelain veneers are durable and long lasting and can last for years. Let Dental at the Bow help you maintain a radiant and natural appearance with porcelain veneers!
